MosAnted's Resource Pack Showcase
« on: August 28, 2013, 09:38:44 PM »

Gentlemen, behold!

I've been messing around with Texture/Resource packs lately, and I thought it would be cool if I shared some of them with the server community. So here's what I'm planning to do: I plan to put on a resource pack ,and go around the server, screencapping stuff so you guys can see how it looks with the resource pack on. The reviews will have the following format:

Name: Name of the Resource Pack
Download: URL where you can download the RP
Size: The definition of the Resource Pack (Minecraft has a base definition of 16x16 pixels)
Theme: The theme of the pack, if it has one (ie, faithful, toony, etc)
MCPatcher required: whether the PAck needs MCPatcher to take full advantage of it's features. Note that since 1.5, Minecraft no longer requires MCPatcher/OptiFine in order to display HD textures, but still needs them for things like animated textures and CTM (Connected Textures) Donwload MCPatcher here
IMPORTANT NOTE: OptiFine also includes support for HD Textures and CTM functionality, so you can use it insted. HOWEVER, Optifine's features are not as comprehensive as MCPatcher's, and so you might not be able to take advantage of all the pack's features.
Screencaps: D'uh :P
UPDATE: Got Armor Stand mod working and I'm going to be taking screenshots of the armors when applicable (ie if the pack uses the Default armors I won't take a pic). The mod sometimes glitches the Leather Armor tho, so it will be modeled by my Character.
Comments: Final comments by me/my review. These will most likely be highly subjective though.
Rating: My personal rating on a 0/10 scale. Not objective in the least bit ;)

I have several RP's i've been messing with already lined up for review, but if any of you would like me to review a particular one let me know ;)

Size: 32x
Theme: RPG
MCPatcher required: Yes

Comments: A slightly dark, RPG-ish pack. Good to give your minecraft a medieval-ish feel. Note that the Pack is a work in progress and uses textures from the JohnSmith Pack as placeholders, so there might be some repetition between these too. But since it's a WIP i think that's forgiveable.

Theme: Faithful
MCPatcher required: yes

Comments: A faithful, cleand and smooth pack. Tho, IMO, sometimes a bit *too* smooth. I feel a couple of the textures feel a bit bland. Still, it's a good choice for a higher-res faithful pack, although there are betters IMO.

Name: Dokucraft: The Saga Continues (Light Version)
NOTE: Dokucraft comes in 3 main flavours: Dark, Light and High. The main difference between the 3 is just the color palette, but there are a few textures that are different. I'll do the other 2 versions shortly.
Download: http://dokucraft.co.uk/
Size: 64x, 32x, 16x
Theme: RPG
MCPatcher required: Yes
Screencaps: [gallery][/gallery]
Comments: This is THE original RPG-themed Pack. I like the Light version the most because I find it strikes the best balance ambient-wise. Also, for bonus points, this RP is one of the first to take advantage of the new RP format by including (as an optional download) new music to replace Minecraft's default, which I found fits well with the RPG/Medieval-ish tone it adds. So, as far as RPG-themed packs go, you can't go wrong with this one.

Comments: The "high" flavour of DokuCraft. This is a much lighter palette, with an "elven" feeling IMO. A nice alternative, tho personally I still prefer Light.

Comments: the "Dark" flavour of Doku. (I took all of these pictures at night, it's not a feature of the pakc however :P) Not a big fan of it as the pallette is a bit too dark and gloomy for my linking, but it might be right up the alley for some people I guess.

Comments: This is yet another RPG-themed pack. Yet, unlike most RPG packs, this one's color palette is very vibrant, with the textures looking somewhat toony, while most RPG-themed packs tend to be more sober, so it makes an interesting alternative. Unfortunately it is still a work in progress, and as you might have seen, several fo the items, such as the armor, are not done yet, neither are the mobs. Also as a bit of a negative aside, the nether bricks don't contrast too well with the netherrack, which is a particualr pet peevee of mine.

Comments: The most used RP after default, and with good reason, this is a straight upgrade to the game's default graphics. IMO there is no reason *not* to use it, for people who don't like changing the game's default look, this RP keeps it but makes everything look so much more defined and clean. Definitely a must.

Comments: Yet another RPG-themed pack, but one of my favourites. This started (I believe) as a remix of Dokucraft that eventually took a life of its own, and then became part of the Legacy packs (the original creator stopped working on them and someone else took over). I'm not sure what it is exactly but I *really* like this one. And look at that slime! :>

Comments: A very interesting one, Steampunk with a touch of realism, this pack is *very* detailed, with several of the textures being animated. This one leaves me in an odd positions, because, although I like it a lot, I just can't see myself using in day-to-day MC. It just changes the feeling *too* much. Maybe in a steampunk-themed server... Bur hey, if you like Steampunk, why not give this a shot? It might be up your alley!

Comments: Moving away from the RPg-themed packs, here we have a simple, minimalist one. I'm not personally vry fond of it, as what i look in RP is an upgrade ot default, or at the very least, a sidegrade (when in 16x16), and this one feels a bit like a downgrade IMO, as some of the textures fell like they are of lower resolution. That said, for the same reason this could be a good option for those with slower PC's.

Comments: And back to another RPG-themed pack! (Actually I'm just doing them in the order they show in the GUI XD) This is the one taken as a placeholder by A'therys, and it's a damn nice pack too! It only has  a few small issues that detract from it in my mind, and keep it from being among my favourites: The end stone is a bit of an eyesore, the glowstone and redstone lamp texture being the same. Other than that, a very commendable choice.

Comments: A very light-hearted, whimsical themed RP. It follows a similar sedign philosyphy to Good Morning Craft of simplicity. However, that also makes it share GMC's issues in my eyes: The relative lack of detail makes this Pack feel lower-quality. Still it is an interesting alternative for a brighter, cheerier MC.

Comments: This is an interesting one. With a toony look, it changes the look and feel of MC quite a bit. Unfortunately it's just a bit too much for me to sue regularly, but it's still an interesting experience.
EDIT: Added an extra pic of that pretty MCPatcher-exclusive glass.
